Vega Duplicators
produce a wide range of turnings quickly, easily and accurately, on
your lathe, with minimal turning experience. They are designed and
constructed to withstand production turning environments. Thoughtfully
designed accessories provide even greater versatility for turning difficult,
unusual or custom parts. The Vega Professional Duplicator fits all
full sized Lathes and is available with standard travels of 16",
36", 96" and 120". For specific application information
and technical support, your dealer and a helpful and knowledgeable
factory staff is just a phone call away.
What Will the Duplicator Do?
For all but the most experienced hand turners, the Vega Pro duplicator
will give you much faster stock removal, good surface finish on most
woods and the ability to produce duplicate spindles that are exactly
the same. The duplicator will give you superb tool control, making
turning safer, faster and more accurate.
How Does it Work?
The duplicator works on the same principle as a
key cutter. You either make a template (which has the profile of the
turning cut into it) or mount an original turning that you wish to
copy (4" diameter
maximum for original turnings). Excess material is quickly removed
by locking cutters in-out motion and turning the handwheel of the
duplicator to move the cutter along the axis of the lathe bed. Then
the last cuts are made, working from the high points of the turning
down into the coves..
Can I Still Use Chisels?
Yes. The first option is to remove the duplicator by loosening 2 bolts.
The second option is to mount the duplicator on the back side of the
lathe and turn the cutter upside down. This gives you access to the
front of the lathe for hand turning. The third option is available
only to those with a reversing lathe. This option is to mount the duplicator
on the front and hand turn from the back side of the lathe with the
spindle reversed. Note that some lathes may be constructed in such
a way as to prevent mounting the Vega Duplicator on the rear of the
machine.
How Deep a Cut Can I Take?
It can reduce the diameter by up to 3/4" per pass. To obtain
this deep a cut, a stout workpiece that will not deflect under load
is necessary and a lathe with adequate horsepower (3/4 hp Minimum).
Great Features
- RIGIDITY - Results in the cutter being held firmly
in place to achieve a smooth cut.
- DURABILITY - Heavy construction
and low friction material result in a very durable tool. all wear
points have mechanical take-ups.
- EASE OF OPERATION - All controls
are located for fast and convenient access.
Accessories
- NEW POWER FEED - A variable speed D.C. motor powers
a lead screw, like on a metal lathe. A special half nut arrangement
allows for automatic kick out and senses where to disengage. It provides
superior surface finish over hand feeding and allows you to sand
while the Duplicator makes chips. Increases production!
- Slender Turning
Accessory 1.875
A traveling steady rest which solves the problem of spindles “whipping.” (Because
they are structurally weak due to their length to diameter ratio.)
This device bolts to the front of the Duplicator carriage and supports
the spindle inside a large bearing with 4 opposing ¾” diameter
set screws (Handles up to 1 7/8” square stock).
- Slender Turning
Accessory 1.375
Functionally similar to the Slender turning 1.875 unit, but will
only hold up to 1 3/8” square spindle blanks. This unit is
designed mainly for simple tapers which can be cut in one pass. Typical
turning for this unit would be Windsor chair spindles, drum sticks,
pool cues, etc.
- Spiral Attachment
Turn the Spindle using the duplicator cutter and then mount a router
on the duplicator. The Spiral Attachment will rotate the spindle
while cutting the flutes or reeds. Has a built in 24 tooth index
plate.
- Router Bracket
Lets you mount a round motor router to the tool holder spindle
of the duplicator. Use your lathes indexer to position the turning
for fluting. New design allows vertical or tipped back positioning
of the router to accommodate larger diameter turnings.
- Diamond Vee
Cutter
This is a high performance cutting system utilizing
double ended Carbide inserts. Advantages include superior surface
finish on turnings, long cutter life, no sharpening, indexable for
fast & accurate
tool changes. Great for most types of wood.
- Special Cutters
The Square Shoulder Cutter is a carbide insert cutter
for cutting clean 90 degree left or right facing shoulders. It uses
the Diamond Vee style insert to cut furniture knobs and round type
shapes. Both are indexable tools.
- Steady Rest
This steady rest bolts to the lathe bed. It has 2 arms
with soft rollers and bearings. The soft material helps prevent the
wood from compressing while spinning. This keeps the steady rest
running smooth and quiet. This design is very good for small batches
of parts or occasional long spindles.
- Template Maker
This tool lets you quickly and easily draw profile
onto template material form an original turning. Simply put the master
turning in the lathe and follow the profile using the template maker
following tool. A pencil then traces the profile onto the template
material. Cut your template and make your turnings.
